Award “Libraries: Development and the 2030 Agenda”

The UNESCO Chair in Biodiversity Safeguard for Sustainable Development and the Eng. Jorge Bento, in Condeixa-a-Nova, was awarded the prize “Libraries: Development and Agenda 2030” for the project “30 days, 30 books – The Biggest Flower in the World: biodiversity around us”, focused on the education of children as strategic agents of change in the area of ​​sustainable development.

Awarded by the Portuguese Association of Librarians, Archivists, Information and Documentation Professionals (BAD) and by the Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB), the award will be given to the Municipal Library of Condeixa at the commemorative session of the 49th anniversary of the ADB, on December 7, 2022.

“The jury considered the project as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and which serves as an engine for the dissemination and dissemination of the SDGs themselves by annually assuming the exploratory nature of these themes with basic and pre-school education. At the same time, it promotes reading and access to information and education, for school groups that do not have access to the school library”, highlight the promoters of the award, also considering that the winning project by Condeixa represents a “good approach for a national project to disseminate the SDGs in a concerted”, highlights Nuno Moita, Mayor of Condeixa.

The “30 days, 30 books” project is a service that the Condeixa Library Network (RBC) has been promoting since 2010 and is based on the roaming of books through Kindergartens and Primary Schools in the municipality of Condeixa. that do not have a school library, and in the development of pedagogical activities around a theme selected annually.

In a joint action between the Condeixa Library Network team and the UNESCO Chair team, a set of monthly pedagogical actions was developed that included reading sessions, plastic activities focused on biodiversity, pedagogical games, culminating with a visit to the Botanical Garden, in Coimbra.
